Comfort and Care
April was a particularly challenging month. Eclipses pinging off of Chiron (the wounded healer), Mercury retrograde and an illuminating full moon in Scorpio all conspired to shine a light on old wounds, their pain and their medicine.
In facing old wounds we have been asked; what patterns/behaviors have we developed in order to cope and create comfort? These things masquerade as comfort and protection. At one time these things served us, but we are nudged to look at these things again and ask; “Is this still serving me?”
These mechanisms often involve disassociation through various forms. From mind altering substances, to food, spending, relationships, staying busy or being stuck in specific types of emotions/thinking patterns. Comfort can be found in trying to remain invisible. Not wanting to be seen in our full authenticity. It can be found in performative action. Begging to be seen through a desired lense.
All of these things develop out of our need to soothe the emotional body. So, what happens when we’re ready to let these things go? What fills the void? HOW do we create the new path? It sounds cliche’, but it really is as simple as one breath, one second, one day at a time. It begins with the decision to walk a new path.
The definition of “Decision” has Latin roots. The meaning of the word “decide” comes from the Latin word, decidere, which is a combination of two words:
de = ‘OFF’ +
caedere = ‘CUT’
CUT + OFF = DECISION!
To decide means to CUT OFF everything except the things that matter most. This concept can be powerful once we start applying it in our lives.
Have you recently been nudged to make some decisions around what matters most? Do you feel a new path awaiting your footsteps? It is helpful in making new choices to see these things as care. Instead of denying yourself, you are caring for yourself.
There is a beautiful trust that develops between ourselves and spirit when we not only listen to, but act upon the messages being given to us. Our souls KNOW what we need to do. Let the prayer not only be for guidance, but the ability to ACT upon that guidance. It takes bravery to step into the unknown, to step into a new way of being.
With this new moon in Taurus we are being urged to take the lessons from April and solidify them through practical actions in stepping forward.
It’s important to remember that we’re not alone when deciding to walk a new path. Though we may wobble or stumble over fresh terrain, we can call upon the helping spirits for assistance. They are always there, waiting to be acknowledged and communed with.

Embodied Practice ~ Connect with the Helping Spirits
Setting Space
Find a quiet place where you will be undisturbed. You will want to be able to close your eyes. This practice can be done seated, laying down, or for EXTRA ambiance, in a bath. You may want to light a candle, work with a sustainable smoke cleanse, room spray or essential oils to increase your feeling of connection. Follow your intuition as to what’s needed.
Helping Spirits
You may have more than one helping spirit appear. Perhaps you encounter a few or even a whole party! Your helping spirit/s can manifest in many ways. Sometimes they present as a feeling, rather than a visual or auditory manifestation. Be open to your own experience. Also, the willingness to learn more about a particular energy/guide can help you deepen your connection. A little research into the symbolism of what you encounter may reveal an important piece of the puzzle or the message they’re bringing through.
Continued Connection
All relationships need connection. Talk to your helping spirits or commune with them in your own special way. The more often you connect, the more you help grow the relationship. Call on them when you need support AND just to say “hello”. Remember to thank them! Everyone likes being acknowledged when they’re doing a good job, the helping spirits included.
